Welcome!

Welcome! I’m Chris, an entomologist from Corvallis, OR. I have an M.S. in Horticulture (Entomology Option) from Oregon State University, and a B.S. in Bioresource Research, with and Entomology Minor. I’ve been studying insects for 8 years and enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for insects with others. I also enjoy taking photos of videos and photos of insects, which have appeared in news media and scientific university and extension publications.

This blog will cover insects found during my work searching for and collecting pentatomids (stink bugs) in Oregon during the summer of 2014, and possibly beyond. I’ll have photos, location data, host plant and a description as best as I can identify.  The name of the blog comes from the collection tool i’ll be using most of the time: a beat sheet. It’s essentially an inverted kite that you put under a tree or a bush. It’s helps you collect insects that fall out of trees and bushes that you shake or beat with a stick. It’s good for crawling insects, but not so good for flying insects. Here’s a link explaining how to make your own beat sheet from The Bug Chicks: https://vimeo.com/43932105
